چکیده

Background: Cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) is a potentially life-threatening condition with wide range of clinical presentations, from localized headache (the most common symptom) to mental status disturbances, seizures, and coma. Objectives: The main purpose this study was evaluate serum levels ferritin, iron, total iron binding capacity (TIBC) their possible relationship different parameters in CVST patients. Methods: Thirty patients definitive diagnosis based on brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) venography (MRV) results participated the study. During first 24 hours after admission, 5 cc blood sample collected each patient delivered laboratory measure TIBC levels. Results: Twenty-four women six men (mean age: 42.6 ± 16.33 years) mean TIBC, ferritin were within normal ranges (99.40 29.97 mg/dL, 324.50 49.57 87.36 88.84 ng/mL, respectively). There no significant relationships between levels, oral contraceptive pills consumption, history or cerebrovascular accident (CVA), underlying diseases, involved sinus. Conclusions: current showed benefits using indices

Serum iron and total iron-binding capacity compared with serum ferritin in assessment of iron deficiency.

Ferritin values for 250 selected sera were compared with values for iron, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), and transferrin saturation, to assess the potential of the ferritin assay for the detection of latent iron deficiency. The specimens were grouped (50 in each group) according to their values for iron and TIBC. In Group 1 (low iron, high TIBC) the saturation and ferritin values both indi...

Estimation of hemoglobin, serum iron, total iron-binding capacity and serum ferritin levels in oral submucous fibrosis: A clinicopathological study

INTRODUCTION Oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) is also considered as an Asian version of sideropenic dysphagia, wherein chronic iron deficiency leads to mucosal susceptibility to irritants, such as chillies and areca nut products. Hemoglobin (Hb) levels, in particular, serum iron levels, are considered as biochemical indicators for nutritional assessment. Serum iron content can thus be a predictor...

Simplified determination of serum iron and total iron-binding capacity.

2,4,6-Tripyridyl-s-triazine (TPTZ) is a color reagent for ferrous ion in the pH range 2 to 10,when ascorbic acid is used as the reducing agent. In this range TPTZ and ferrous ion combine in the ratio of two to one. Tris buffer is commonly used to maintain an alkaline pH, but it reacts with other reducing agents, rendering them ineffective. These observations suggested a method for the joint det...

Serum iron and total iron-binding capacity as measured radiometrically.

With the increasing availability of programmable calculators and minicomputers, it is desirable to demystify radioimmunoassay calculations, and make them available to laboratories lacking massive computing facilities. Recently I modified the Hewlett-Packard 67/97 logit-log radioimmunoassay program to include weighting (submitted to the HP Program Library). I provide here a description of this p...

Serum iron and ferritin levels in alopecia areata

Background: Alopecia Areate (AA) is a recurrent non-scarring patchy hair loss of autoimmune origin in a genetically susceptible individual although environmental factors may be contributory. The aim of this study is to evaluate serum iron and ferritin levels in patients with AA. Methods: Fifty patients of AA and 50 age and sex matched control subjects without any hair loss were studied. Results...
